Old Man Winter is on his way to town!

As I merged onto Rt. 322 east this morning, and pointed my Subaru towards the "burg," I couldn't help but take a glance at my car's temperature display. Unfortunately, I wasn't surprised at all when I saw the digits "2" and "5" looking back at me. It was 25 degrees outside... Yikes!

Man it has been getting cold lately, and as I sit here, I can't quite decide if I am ready for it or not. It seems like just a couple weeks ago we were outside in shorts and t-shirts... Still, there is no escaping old man winter, and it seems like he is already on his way town--riding a one way ticket straight towards central PA! Let's hope he doesn't stick around for long this year, haha! As we all know... Will Smith does not have any greatest hits labelled "Wintertime." :-(

In spite of the cooling temps, we have found a few opportunities to spend some time on the water during the past few weeks... In fact, at times, the smallmouth bite in the river has been quite good. Dad has especially scored some nice bass recently, as well as at least one nice walleye. I have personally had a couple of decent moments myself recently also... So if you have the chance to get out in the coming weeks--don't miss your opportunity! It won't be long until it is miserable and cold out there.

In addition to our recent bronzeback forays, Dad and I made a quick trip to Erie a couple weeks ago... Unfortunately, we got rained out after about a half day of fishing, but it was still nice see the sights and to spend some good father/son time on the tribs. Fishing was tough, but there were a couple steelies that cooperated.
About a month ago, Dad and I had a great afternoon trip to the Juniata... We didn't fish for long, and we didn't really catch a lot of numbers, but we did get some really nice-sized fish. Dad scored two 20+ inch smallmouths and I also got a 20 incher, along with a pretty little toothy surpise that inhaled my super fluke.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pics...  And I guess I should mention that in spite of the cold "miserableness" that is on it's way, I am actually pretty excited about fishing this upcoming cold water season. A lot of our best fish tend to come from the rivers during the cold water months... So--here is to looking forward with excitement, and to anticipating the good times this season might bring!

As always, thanks for stopping by the site, and I wish you all the best of luck on the water this coming season! :)
